ITHACA, NY (WSKG) -Southern Tier Congressman Tom Reed met with a group of students from Dryden High School on Tuesday afternoon. The students are members of a student-run Leadership Council.
In the wake of the UN Climate Action Summitlast week, the students’ first question was about climate change.
As a Republican, Reed said he doesn’t believe the solution to climate change is through regulations and mandates.
"In order to deal with this issue we gotta unleash the innovation of technology that is going to address climate change," he said. "And what that means is -- how do you produce the next generation of energy?"
Reed said he favors tax policies and incentives to encourage new research. He added nuclear energy must be part of the transition away from fossil fuels even with its risks.
Students also asked questions about upstate business growth and the cost of a college education.
