ITHACA, NY (WSKG) - New York 23rd District Congressman Tom Reed reiterated Trump Administration statements that the President's decision to abruptly withdraw U.S. troops was not an invitation to the Turkish military to attack the U.S. allied Kurdish forces inside Syria.
The Kurdish forces were part of the effort to defeat ISIS in Syria. They are responsible for guarding thousands of ISIS prisoners in northern Syrian prisons.
"I do believe that going back in regards to disentanglement of us in these endless wars is a good policy," said Reed.
The Republican added that he understands criticism of how the decision was delivered. President Trump announced his major foreign policy decision in a tweet. He did not notify U.S. military, the State Department or allies in advance.
But, Reed called criticism of the Trump's decision cowardly. He would rather Congress vote on whether U.S. troops should have a presence in Syria.
