High Winds, Rain Knock Out Power Across Southern Tier, Upstate New York

Updated: 11/1/19 - 1:58 P.M.

VESTAL, NY (WSKG) - High winds and rain from storms Thursday night and Friday morning knocked out power across the Southern Tier and elsewhere in New York.

According to NYSEG, 69,000 customers lost power across the state. Among the hardest hit areas were Steuben and Schuyler Counties. Other areas include Cattaragus, Chautauqua and Erie Counties in western New York along with Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess Counties in the Hudson Valley.

At one point in Steuben County, about 17,500 customers, or 50,000 households, were without power, according to a statement from Steuben's Office of Emergency Services. The county is urging customers not to call 911 to report an outage so those lines can be open for emergencies.

In Cortland County, a State of Emergency has been declared to deal with damage from the storm.*

NYSEG offers information for reporting an outage on it's website. It also offers a map with updates outage information.
