ONEONTA, NY (WSKG) - The Unatego School District has voted 7-0 to award the former Otego Elementary school to Oneonta Christian Academy, a private K-12 Christian school based in Oneonta, New York. The school had been closed since 2017

Dr. Julie Dostal, Vice President of the Oneonta Christian Academy Board of Directors, is excited for the possibilities of the larger space. “We have actually grown to capacity in our current space, so now we can expand capacity, we can have more kids come in and be a part of our school, if they want to be part of our school," Dostal said.

"So, I just think the possibilities with a facility like this are endless," she added. "As big as our imagination.”

Ken Olsen, a resident of Otego and a member of the school board, is also happy with the outcome. “I didn’t want the school to close in the first place, but I know the realities of the district and the financial limitations," said Olsen. “I always wanted an educational facility to be there, and I’m so glad it ended up being that way.”

The purchase price for the building is $100,000, and Oneonta Christain Academy plans to move into the space by the start the next school year.

Besides OCA, three other proposals had been submitted.

One was Dirig Design, a drafting/design firm in Wells Bridge, in Otsego County. The company proposed a mixed-use residential/commercial building.

The other was Granite Data Solutions, an IT service provider based out of McClellan, California. The company withdrew its proposal on Friday.
