Boland Re-Elected Corning Mayor, Democrats hold onto Corning seats

Corning Mayor Race - spot

CORNING, NY (WSKG) - Democrats maintained control over the Corning city council and the mayor’s office following Tuesday’s general election.

Mayor Bill Boland defeated Green Party candidate Elizabeth Whitehouse with 79 percent of the vote, according to unofficial results. There were no Republicans running.

"It's a validation, I think, of the work that we're doing,” Boland said. “It's been done on a non-partisan basis. Very rarely in City Council do you see partisanship exhibited, so I think people voted hopefully across party lines. That's certainly what I would encourage them to do."

Republican Alison Hunt lost her bid to unseat Steve Maio on the Steuben County legislature, but retained her seat on city council. Democrats defended their other three seats up for election, keeping their one-seat majority on city council.
