In Ithaca, Myrick Wins Third Term As Mayor

web-ElectionNight

ITHACA, NY (WSKG) - Voters in the City of Ithaca have re-elected Mayor Svante Myrick to a third term and returned all incumbent Common Council members to their posts.

Myrick won re-election to a third term with 77 percent of the vote and the Common Council members who were running for re-election won by large margins.

He faced a challenge from independent Adam Levine

“Now, it’s back to work," Myrick said. "Doing the work of the people of Ithaca and doing it with a renewed sense of purpose. This was a really focusing campaign.”

The Mayor said now that the campaign is over he wants to focus on making Ithaca more affordable for residents.

"They want a city government that will deliver lower rents and lower taxes," he said. "And I’m really thrilled that our team will have a chance to do that over the next four years."

Some Common Council members faced a last minute challenge by write-in candidates pushing for Ithaca to put more money into its proposed Green New Deal.

That’s part of the city's 2020 budget, which will be voted on Wednesday night.
