ITHACA, NY (WSKG) - The Greater Binghamton Airport has been awarded $6, 462,000 in federal grants to make changes to improve safety.
The funds will pay for improvements to the airport’s taxiways. The result is intended to improve safety by reducing the chances of plane collisions.
New York U.S. Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand and Congressman Anthony Brindisi announced the award. They all called the improvements important to economic growth in the Southern Tier.
Mark Heefner, Commissioner of Aviation in Broome County said upgrades to the airport's infrastructure will help it to rebuild service and operations.
The airport has seen an increase in passengers in over the past three years.
The funds come from the FAA and U.S. Department of Transportation.
