VESTAL, NY (WSKG) — Otsego County's Board of Representatives voted on Wednesday to establish a county administrator. The vote came after what an administrative aide referred to as a lengthy discussion.
Supporters of the move said a county the size of Otsego needs the assistance to run efficiently. Opponents argue taxpayer money could be better spent elsewhere, like on infrastructure or substance abuse treatment.
A county administrator oversees the government much like a county manager or executive.
According to the New York Association of Counties, 22 other counties have administrators.
