ITHACA, NY (WSKG) - New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has signed a bill that sets regulatory standards for the burgeoning hemp industry in the state.
The measure was introduced by Binghamton Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo. It sets guidelines for the production and sale of hemp and hemp extracts in New York. Its goal is to help consumers know more about what's in hemp products.
"Given the enormous consumer interest in hemp extracts like CBD, we need to develop labeling standards the public can rely on," Lupardo said.
This summer, Canada-based Canopy Growth opened a $150 million hemp industrial park in Kirkwood, in Broome County.
