ITHACA, NY (WSKG) - A former clerk with the Village of Delhi pleaded guilty to petty larceny on Thursday. Michele Barnes admitted to writing checks worth $4, 788 to herself from village funds.
Her crime was discovered during an audit by the state comptroller's office.Barnes has agreed to re-pay the stolen funds and make $500 in restitution. She was facing the possibility of three years on probation and one year of conditional discharge.
After her arrest in September, village mayor Rich Maxey expressed disappointment.
Delhi is a village of about 2,500 people located about 20 miles southeast* of Oneonta in Delaware County.
