VESTAL, NY (WSKG) — Joe Hauryski, chairman of the Steuben County Legislature, is stepping down at the end of this year. He was first elected to the county legislature in 2007 and has served as chairman since 2010, a record nine years.
“It feels like yesterday,” Hauryski said in a press release. “And it feels like a 100 years ago.”
One of his achievements was helping to strike a deal to keep open the former Polly-O cheese factory in Campbell after the owner announced they would sell.
Hauryski also praised his possible successors. “I know these individuals, have known many of them for years and I know the quality of leadership available to this board," he said. "Steuben County will be in good hands.”
The Steuben County Legislature is expected to meet January 2nd and elect a new chairman.
