Flu Cases Spike in Tioga County

BINGHAMTON, NY (WSKG) — The flu virus is on the rise in Tioga County.

The county said this year’s flu season has come on quickly and aggressively. Between October 1st and December 28th, Tioga saw about 110 cases of influenza. That’s compared to 48 cases during the same time last year, and 40 cases the year before that.

Influenza has been widespread in New York State, 60 of 62 counties reported cases the week ending on December 28th.

Babies and elderly people are the most vulnerable.

Tioga County Public Health recommends everyone six months and older get a flu shot not only to protect yourself, but to protect those unable to get a vaccine, avoid anyone who is sick, and keep your hands clean.
