VESTAL, NY (WSKG) — Republican Anthony German is suspending his campaign in the race for New York's 19th Congressional District. The seat is currently held by freshman Democrat Antonio Delgado.
A source close to the campaign told WSKG Tuesday morning that German was bowing out. Later Tuesday, German's campaign released a statement making it official.
"It has truly been a pleasure meeting with you, speaking with you, and working with you in our efforts to get Washington back to work serving the American people," German said.
The statement also said German is endorsing Ola Hawatmeh in the race.
Hawatmeh and Michael Roth have both filed for the Republican line with the Federal Elections Commission.
German entered the race in August. He's a retired two-star general of the National Guard.
New York's 19th congressional district includes part of the Southern Tier and Hudson Valley, including Delaware, Otsego and part of Broome County.*
