Updated: Crouch Retires From NY Assembly, Candidates Vie To Replace Him

Updated: 1/27/20 - 3:14 P.M.

VESTAL, NY (WSKG) - Long-time New York Assemblyman Cliff Crouch is retiring at the end of this year and candidates are already vying to replace him.

Crouch has been in the Assembly since 1995. His 122nd District covers parts of Broome, Delaware, Chenango and Otsego Counties.

The Republican said he’s leaving to spend more time with his family. “Despite overwhelming support from friends, family, colleagues and community members from around the district, the time has come for me to step away from public service," said Crouch, who's 74.

Shortly after the announcement, Chenango County resident and former marine Joseph Angelino announced he will be running for the seat and is being endorsed by Crouch.

Meanwhile, Nick Libous has also entered the race. He lost to Crouch in the 2018 election. Libous is the son of Tom Libous, the long-time Binghamton-area state senator who also served as Deputy Senate Majority Leader.

The elder Libous was convicted of lying to the F.B.I. and died in 2016 while appealing that conviction.*
