ITHACA, NY (WSKG) - A Cornell University student that was tested for the coronavirus does not have it. But, the university announced that a second student is being tested for the virus.
There are no confirmed cases of coronavirus in New York.
Though one student has been cleared, Cornell officials said a second student has met the CDC criteria for testing.
The CDC advises that people who have been in China, especially in Hubei province, in the last two weeks and have a fever and cough or shortness of breath should be tested.
The Tompkins County Health Department instructs anyone who fits that description to contact their healthcare provider immediately.
The coronavirus is spread from someone who is sick through the air by coughing or sneezing, close personal contact, or touching surfaces where the virus is present.
Full disclosure: Cornell University is a WSKG Underwriter.
