ITHACA, NY (WSKG) - Anna Kelles announced on Friday she is seeking the Democratic nomination to replace Lifton.

Lifton announced she will not seek re-election after this legislative session.

She represents the 125th assembly district. It covers Tompkins and part of Cortland County.

Kelles was first elected to the Tompkins County legislature in 2015.

She said her campaign will focus on affordable housing in walkable communities, affordable child care, reducing healthcare costs, and the environment.

Kelles is the third candidate to join the race for Democratic nomination. The others are Seph Murtagh, an Ithaca Alderman and member of Lifton's staff and Jason Leifer, Dryden Town Supervisor.

No Republican has entered the race.*
