Brindisi Officially Launches 2020 Re-Election Campaign

BINGHAMTON, NY (WSKG) - New York 22nd District Congressman Anthony Brindisi is officially running for another term.

“Today, I have a little announcement and I hope you’re with me," Brindisi said, speaking in Binghamton on Monday. "Today, I’m here to announce I’m officially running for re-election.”

Brindisi is in his first term and highlighted his work for far. He spoke about his criticism of Spectrum and the number of town halls he’s held around the district.

He faces a Republican field that includes former Broome County Legislator George Phillips, educator Franklin Sager and former Congresswoman Claudia Tenney, who’s been endorsed by President Trump.

Brindisi beat Tenney in a close race in 2018.

“President Trump endorsed our campaign because he knows I will beat Anthony Brindisi and support his pro-growth, pro-jobs agenda that we jump started for Upstate New York,” Tenney said in a statement.

Meanwhile, George Phillips is going after Tenney, arguing the Republican nominee needs to be a new face. "Former Congresswoman Tenney lost this district with 30,000 more Republicans that President Trump won by 15 points," Phillips said in statement.

Phillips has run for Congress a number of times, including in 2008 and 2010. Those years, he won the nomination, but lost the general election to Democrat Maurice Hinchey.

NY-22 includes part of the Southern Tier and Central New York, including Binghamton, Norwich and Utica.
