Officials Warn Of COVID-19 Scams

VESTAL, NY (WSKG) - New York Attorney General Letitia James is warning of people knocking on doors in Otsego County claiming to be from the C.D.C. and offering COVID-19 tests for a fee.

“We must remain vigilant against any scam designed to exploit people’s anxiety, especially during a global pandemic," James said in a statement. "New Yorkers should know that no one from the CDC, or any other health agency, is knocking on doors to provide tests for the COVID-19 virus for a fee."

Meanwhile, Steuben County’s Office For The Aging is warning of COVID-19 scams as well. It’s urging people not to click links from sites they don’t recognize, it could be a virus.

It’s also encouraging residents to go to the CDC website for the latest on COVID-19.
