CHOW Deliveries Provided To People In Quarantine

BINGHAMTON, NY (WSKG) — Weekly boxes of food are landing on the doorstep of people who are quarantined. The Broome County Council of Churches is delivering CHOW to vulnerable populations who are self-quarantining and those who are in mandatory quarantine.

"We’ve been working at putting together what we’re calling to-go boxes. It’s the best ring-and-dash that you can think about," said Reverend Joe Sellepack, Executive Director for the Broome County Council of Churches. They are serving more than 140 homes a week.

To sign up, call 2-1-1.

They are also providing home-delivery where food pantries have closed. Food pantries that are still open have largely transitioned to giving pre-boxed food to limit interaction.

Reverend Sellepack said we need to be careful with each other during this time.

"Even though we are all suppose to be in self-isolation and practicing social distancing, we need to also give each other emotional room in the midst of all that," Sellepack said. "So that people can experience it themselves, feel what’s going on, cry if they need to, be anxious if they need to, find little glimpses of joy."

He added that in spite of the fearful conditions there are still glimpses of hope and love in the world.
