Baseball Hall Of Fame Weekend, Dick's Open Both Canceled

BINGHAMTON, NY (WSKG) - There will be no Baseball Hall of Fame weekend this summer in Cooperstown.

Concerned over the threat posed by COVID-19, the Board of Directors at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum voted unanimously Wednesday to cancel the event. That includes the Hall of Fame induction ceremony, scheduled for July 25. Instead, 2020 inductees will be merged with the 2021 class

This year's induction ceremony was set to include former shortstop Derek Jeter, who won five World Series Championships with the New York Yankees.  His selection was nearly unanimous.

Also canceled Wednesday is the Dick's Sporting Goods Open, which had been scheduled for Endicott August 10-16. In a statement, the PGA Tour Champions blamed the COVID-19 pandemic in New York.

The event will be replaced with the Senior Players Championship in Akron, Ohio. It was originally scheduled for July 6-12.
