ITHACA, NY (WSKG) - 392 residents and staff at the Chemung County Nursing Facility have taken COVID-19 tests and the results are negative. That's according to a release from Chemung County Executive Chris Moss.
The tests were conducted after an employee, who is not a nurse, was found to have the virus on April 27.
A contact investigation by the facility found that 20 staff members and one resident had been in direct contact with the COVID-positive employee.
Facility Administrator Michael Youmans said the staff are provided appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and are required to use masks and face shields when interacting with others at the facility.
"Testing all staff and residents in such a short time frame was a tremendous challenge," Youmans said, "but as a facility we felt it was important to continue our proactive approach in combating COVID-19."*
