BINGHAMTON, NY (WSKG) — Housing authorities in the New York's 22nd Congressional District will receive over a million dollars in federal HUD grants. Congressman Anthony Brindisi announced today the Housing and Urban Development grants will go to 6 public housing projects:
Utica Housing Authority: $533,185
Rome Housing Authority: $24,733
Herkimer Housing Authority: $51,323
Binghamton Housing Authority: $338,859
Cortland Housing Authority: $87.660
Norwich Housing Authority: $27,379
The federal grants are part of the coronavirus relief package.
"Folks who are living in these residents have needs just like the rest of us, childcare needs, healthcare, other concerns," Brindisi said.
Brindisi represents New York's 22nd Congressional district. It includes Binghamton, where the housing authority will receive $338,859.
"They plan to buy computers to help kids who now have to conduct distance learning. They’re going to buy masks for their maintenance workers, cleaning supplies."
