TOMPKINS COUNTY, NY (WSKG) - A window at the Corning campaign office of Congressman Tom Reed (NY-23) was smashed around 1:30 A.M. on Wednesday.
Reed described the vandalism as an act of extremism.
A campaign spokesperson, Matt Coker, accused "opponents and the far left” for the damage. Corning police declined to speak to WSKG. No motive has been made public.
The Republican is running for re-election in New York’s 23rd district against Democrat Tracy Mitrano, whom he defeated in 2018.
Mitrano condemned the attack and said she will wait for the police investigation to confirm who threw the brick. She said it’s inappropriate to speculate who is responsible.
The district Reed represents spans parts of the Southern Tier, Finger Lakes and western New York. It includes Owego, Ithaca and Jamestown.
No one was in the office at the time of the incident.
