Keuka College Moves Classes Online For Two Weeks

TOMPKINS COUNTY, NY (WSKG) - Keuka College officials have moved classes online for two weeks beginning Monday.

Officials made the decision after a rise in cases of COVID-19 included 11 new cases in a 24-hour period from Saturday to Sunday. 108 students identified through contact tracing are either in quarantine or isolation. There were 48 total COVID-19 cases related to the campus as of Monday evening. One employee has tested positive for the virus.

The Yates County Health Department is conducting contact tracing.

Keuka College is a private college in Yates County located on the shore of Keuka Lake, one of the Finger Lakes. Yates is a rural county and most students live on campus.

College President Amy Storey called the rise in cases "disappointing".

“This is the best way to accommodate the immediate instructional needs of all our students, whether they are quarantining or not,” Storey said in a statement.

College officials strongly urged students to remain on campus during the two week period to avoid increasing health risks within their home communities.
