Update: Delgado Claims Victory In NY-19, Van De Water Doesn't Concede

Updated: 11/4/20 - 3:00 P.M.

VESTAL, NY (WSKG) - Rep. Antonio Delgado (D-NY) has claimed re-election victory in New York's 19th Congressional District.

NY-19 covers parts of the Southern Tier and Hudson Valley including Otsego, Delaware and part of Broome County.

Delgado leads Republican Kyle Van De Water by just over two percent with all election districts reporting, or around 7,000 votes.

There is a surge in absentee ballots due to COVID-19. They will determine the race's final result. Delgado's campaign officials said there are about 60,000 of these ballots in the district, but believe a majority of those are from Democratic voters and will break in his favor.

"The people of New York’s 19th Congressional District have made their voices heard and I am truly grateful for the opportunity to serve again," Delgado said in a statement.

Van De Water, meanwhile, does not appear to be conceding. "Not so fast Delgado," he wrote on Twitter.

The race also included Green Party candidate Steve Greenfield and Libertarian Victoria Alexander. Neither received more than two percent of the vote.

Nearly five percent of voters thus far left the spot on their ballots blank.
