BINGHAMTON, NY (WSKG) — The Associated Press declared Democratic incumbent Antonio Delgado the winner of New York’s 19th Congressional District on Wednesday night.
On election night, Delgado led Republican challenger Kyle Van De Water by 7,248 votes.
Delgado's lead grew to more than 17,000 once absentee ballots were counted.
The Democrat will begin his sophomore term in Congress in January. In 2018, Delgado ousted Republican John Faso from the seat after one term.
Van De Water said he has called Delgado to congratulate him on winning a second term in Washington. The Republican, a veteran and an attorney, said he looks forward to a rematch for the district in 2022.
NY-19 includes Delaware, Greene, Otsego, Schoharie and Ulster counties, as well as parts of Broome County.
