Rural Broome DMV Reopens After Closing Amid Pandemic

VESTAL, NY (WSKG) - Broome County’s mobile Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) office in Harpursville reopened on Monday, after closing due to the pandemic.

Broome County Clerk Joe Mihalko and Assemblyman Joe Angelino (R-122) announced the reopening. Both said they hoped the satellite office would help communities in eastern Broome County access the DMV more easily.

“We’re very happy to be back again, helping to serve the rural community here in the Harpursville area,” said Mihalko. “We know we reach out a little bit further than that, but we’re more than happy to help people out here.”

Since the county’s satellite office closed, rural residents have had to drive to other DMVs, often miles away from their homes.

“I know there’s people out there who need to get some DMV registrations done, and this is just such a helpful part of coming out of this pandemic,” said Angelino, whose district spans parts of Broome, Chenango, Delaware and Otsego Counties. “We see light at the end of the tunnel, this is a big part of it, and I thank the county clerk for doing this.”

Residents can either make an appointment to visit the office on Mondays or leave their registration forms in a drop box outside any weekday.
