ALBANY, NY (WAMC) — Former New York gubernatorial candidate, Marc Molinarofiled paperworkdeclaring his candidacy for the current 19th Congressional District seat Friday.
Molinaro, who currently serves as Duchess County Executive, was entertaining a second run for governor in 2022, but later joined other Republicans endorsing Rep. Lee Zeldin (NY-01) for that race.
The 19th District is currently represented by Democrat Antonio Delgado (NY-19), who won a second term after defeating Republican Kyle Van De Water in 2020.
Van De Water was found dead in a confirmed suicide earlier this month. He killed himself shortly after withdrawing his candidacy for 2022.
The contours of the current 19th congressional district will be changing, with New York losing a House seat in the next round of redistricting.
