Oneonta, NY (WSKG) - Democrat Mark Drnek won the race for mayor of the City of Oneonta, with just over 61% of the vote.
"We are going to bring people to the table, irrespective of what their political views might be, but more what their input might be toward problem solving," Drnek said. "We’re going to have respectful conversations. We’re going to work together. We’re going to collaborate and we’re going to get things done."
Drnek ended election night with 1,152 votes. His opponent, Republican candidate Len Carson, received 718.
“Obviously we’re disappointed with the results," said Carson. He conceded the race Tuesday night. "I wish Mark well, and I know he has a vision for the city of Oneonta and I’ll work alongside of him for the next two years.”
Carson remains on the Oneonta Common Council.
Current Oneonta mayor Gary Herzig announced earlier this year that he would retire at the end of his term.
