Broome County opens mass vaccination site in Johnson City

Mass vaccination site - Web

BINGHAMTON, NY (WSKG) — Broome County opened a new state-run mass vaccination and testing site Thursday at Davis College in the Robb Activity Center.

Vaccines and boosters are available Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Residents can get PCR tests on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Tests and shots are by appointment only, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Residents can still get a COVID-19 rapid test at the Broome County Health Department.

There has been more than 900 COVID-19 cases in the county in the past six days, and there are almost 1,500 active cases. County Executive Jason Garnar said those numbers are higher than they’ve ever been.

“We are racing against the clock now. It's important that when people want to get vaccinated or they want to get boosted, that they can do that immediately,” Garnar said.

He added that the site will take pressure off of local hospitals, which he said have struggled to meet increased demand for vaccination and testing.

“What this is doing is increasing capacity. It's allowing our hospitals to focus on patient care. We're going to take care of the testing and vaccinations,” Garnar said.

Broome County already had a state-run mass vaccination site, but it closed in July.
