BATH, NY (WSKG) — Rep. Tom Reed (R-23) has resigned after almost 12 years in Congress.
The Southern Tier Republican made the announcement on the House floor Tuesday afternoon, thanking his family, staff and constituents.
“I love this institution as it still exemplifies what is best about our government. We are the people's house,” Reed said. “While I am proud that we put people before politics, there's much more to do. I am leaving to continue that work and hope to have a greater impact on our country.”
Reed is leaving the House to join a Washington lobbying firm, Prime Policy Group.
Reed announced last year that he would not seek reelection after sexual harassment claims were made that he did not deny.
The departure will trigger a special election for the 23rd Congressional District.
