ITHACA, NY (WSKG) – Friday marks two weeks since Barbara Lifton announced her retirement from the New York State Assembly.
Since then five people have announced they are running for the 125th district seat. The district covers Tompkins and parts of Cortland County.
A Democrat has represented the district for over thirty years. So far, everyone in the race is a Democrat.
The latest person to announce their candidacy is Lisa Hoeschele from Cortland County. She is the CEO of Family and Children’s Counseling Services.
Also from Cortland County is legislator Beau Harbin.
Jason Leifer is the Dryden Town Supervisor. Dryden is also in Tompkins County.
All of the candidates vow to continue Lifton’s legacy of progressive advocacy.
The Democratic primary is in June.
