VESTAL, NY (WSKG) – Binghamton-area State Senator Fred Akshar is endorsing Joe Angelino in the race for New York’s 122 Assembly District, which covers parts of Otsego, Delaware, Broome and Chenango Counties.
That seat is currently held by Republican Cliff Crouch, who’s retiring at the end of the year. Crouch has represented the area since 1995 and is also supporting Angelino.
“Joe is exactly who we need fighting for Upstate community values and common sense in a broken State Government overrun by NYC-led one party Liberal Democrat rule,” Akshar said in a statement.
Akshar’s statement does not mention Nick Libous, who Angelino faces in the GOP Primary. Libous is the son of former State Senator Tom Libous, who left office in 2015 after being convicted of lying to the FBI. He died of prostate cancer in 2016 while awaiting an appeal so his conviction was vacated.
Libous challenged Crouch for the 122nd Assembly Seat in 2018 and lost the primary. He did gain the endorsement of the Conservative Party and appeared on the general election ballot, where he lost to Crouch again.
The primary election is June 23.
