VESTAL, NY (WSKG) – Broome County Executive Jason Garnar leads Republican challenger Karl Bernhardsen by over 15,000 votes.
With all election districts reporting, Garnar leads with 61 percent of the vote. The final result will be known once absentee ballots are counted. A record breaking number of absentee ballots were filed this election year after the pandemic prompted the State of New York to expand access to those ballots.
“Thank you to the tens of thousands of Broome County residents who voted for me to continue serving them as Broome County Executive,” Garnar wrote on Twitter. “I am truly humbled by all of your support.”
If Garner wins, this would be his second term. The Democrat initially won election in 2016 after defeating incumbent Debbie Preston.
