BINGHAMTON, NY (WSKG) — New York 51st District Senator James Seward was discharged after being hospitalized due to COVID-19, according to his office.
Seward and his wife, Cindy, tested positive for the novel coronavirus in late March.
“They consider themselves blessed by the love and concern that have been expressed for the health of both the senator and Mrs. Seward,” Seward’s Chief of Staff Duncan S. Davie said in a statement. “Easter is about the truth of the Resurrection and this year we are more than ever mindful of its impact.”
When Seward, 68, first tested positive, it was reported that he had a mild case of COVID-19, but, more than a week later, his office said he was being moved from the ICU at Albany Medical Center. According to NPR, infections can worsen in about 20% of patients infected by the virus.
The Republican represents the 51st senate district. He has served in the New York Senate since 1987.
