Darrin Ball was at his day job at an upstate fire department last summer when the phone rang.
“One of my relatives had called me and said ‘Hey, did you check your mail yet?’ And I said, ‘No, why?’ And she goes, ‘Well, there’s a very interesting piece of mail in there with your photo all over it,’” Ball said.
When he got home he found a glossy mailer with his face on it, rendered in somewhat sinister black and white.

SYRACUSE, NY (WRVO) - The U.S. Food and Drug Administration Wednesday approved a saliva test for COVID-19 developed by SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, which means the test can now be used nationwide. The test was developed by Upstate with Quadrant Biosciences, a company located in the Upstate campus.
TRANFORMING HEALTH — The most recent Franklin and Marshall College Poll shows fewer than a third of Pennsylvania Republican voters say they will have confidence in the accuracy of mail-in ballot votes cast in the November election. It’s one data point in the poll that raises concerns for Berwood Yost, the director of the college’s Center for Opinion Research.

BINGHAMTON, NY (WSKG) — Republican Congressman Tom Reed (NY-23) said Wednesday he will continue to push for another COVID-19 relief package while attention in Congress shifts to filling the vacancy at the Supreme Court.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said he will move to confirm a new justice this year to fill the vacancy left by the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. When asked if the recent events might deter another relief bill, Reed said his goal remains unchanged.
“I assure you we have not lost focus, what we’re working on in this office, as well as our colleagues that changed the national conversation last week, where it was dead on arrival, the COVID-19 package,” the Congressman said.
BINGHAMTON, NY (WSKG) — New York State Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo released a letter Tuesday calling on the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) to ramp up investigations into the lithium-ion battery recycling facility set to open in Endicott.

The DEC initially granted the company behind the plant, SungEel MMC Americas LLC (SMCC), an air permit in March.
