No COVID-19 Cases In Broome

Updated: 3/11/20 - 3:54 P.M.

VESTAL, NY (WSKG) - There are still no confirmed cases of COVID-19, or the novel coronavirus, in Broome County.

That’s according to County Executive Jason Garnar and health officials.

Broome County Health Department Director Christopher Ryan stresses the risk is low for most people.

“Most people who become infected with this virus have mild illness, mild-to-moderate illness," said Ryan "Most people can ride this out at home with self-care.”

Ryan added the main concern is over vulnerable populations, like the elderly.

So far, most cases of coronavirus in New York are in Westchester County, New York City and Long Island.

An earlier version of this story stated that Binghamton University  had no plans of cancelling classes. That has since changed, with Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that SUNY and CUNY schools will move to a distance learning model on March 19th.*
