WSKG Receives $100,000 NYS Grant for Building Improvements

WSKG public media has completed installation of a much-needed cooling tower, fire detection system and security system thanks to a New York State grant secured by New York State Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo (123rd District).

The new cooling tower replaces one from the 1970’s that is the cooling system for the building and important electronics that keep WSKG TV and radio on the air.

The new fire detection system brings WSKG up to code and replaces the old system that put employees and equipment at risk.

The new security system helps protect employees and the building from modern day threats.

WSKG President and CEO Greg Catlin says “WSKG is a non-profit, educational organization with limited funding. Getting a grant like this is critical so we don’t have to squeeze money from our programming and services budget to pay for things like this. We can’t say thank you enough to Assemblywoman Lupardo and New York State.”

Lupardo toured WSKG today to get a look at the newly-finished work.

“WSKG is such a valuable resource for our community,” said Assemblywoman Lupardo. “From its news programming to historical documentaries, they are committed to telling stories that matter to our residents. Public broadcasting continues to be a trusted source of information for viewers everywhere and I’m happy I was able to secure this funding to help WSKG continue providing this important programming.”

Assemblywoman Lupardo’s 123rd district covers the city of Binghamton and the towns of Vestal and Union.
