Williams graduated from high school last spring. He thought he would go straight to college, but second guessed his plan after getting a taste of distance learning. “I’m terrible at online school,” he says.

Brian Williams in front of his house in Stafford, TX on Monday, December 14, 2020. Brian graduated from high school last spring — right in the middle of the pandemic. His plan was always to go to college — he was thinking Houston Community College. But after finishing his final classes online he just couldn’t stomach doing that again for college in the fall. Plus there was the financial piece “to be honest — the money was a big part of it. We’re broke!” Instead of enrolling in the fall, he’s working as many shifts as he can at Jimmy John’s, saving up for college and helping his mom pay for the household expenses. (Photo/Scott Dalton)
