VESTAL, NY ~Formal invitations to a debate have been sent to Republicans Claudia Tenney and George Phillips. Both are candidates in next month's GOP primary in the NY-22 Congressional District.
The League of Women Voters of Broome and Tioga Counties, WSKG Public Media, SUNY-Broome Civic Engagement Center, Binghamton University Center for Civic Engagement are organizing the event.
The broadcast is planned for June 18, 2020, at 8:00 p.m. at WSKG’s Vestal studios. However, according to League of Women Voters rules, the debate must be cancelled should either candidate refuse to participate. The deadline for candidate response is May 20.
The debate will be broadcast live on WSKG-TV and Radio. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, health precautions must be observed. Therefore, the venue will be closed to the general public. However, voters will be encouraged to submit questions via social media.
