NY State Senator Seward Says His Cancer Has Returned

VESTAL, NY (WSKG) - New York State Senator James Seward has announced he is undergoing treatment for cancer.

Seward represents the sprawling 51st senate district includes Otsego and Cortland, along with part of Chenango, Delaware, Tompkins and Cayuga Counties.

The 68-year-old released a statement saying the cancer that he was diagnosed with in 2016 has returned.

Seward said he will be undergoing treatment for the next several weeks and that will limit his availability around the district. However, he said his offices around the district will remain open.

The Senator has served in the New York Senate since 1987.
