PBS American Portrait: Virtual Screening Event

WSKG invites you to a free virtual screening of PBS American Portrait.

This 'double-feature' screening will be held Tuesday, February 16, 2021, at 7:00 pm ET. We'll watch the American Portrait specials Family of Us and Generation Nation. Additionally, we'll share an American Portrait-inspired short video created by students at Chenango Forks High School and attendees can participate in a chatbox conversation with special guests throughout the event.

REGISTER for WSKG's PBS American Portrait Screening here.

American Portrait is a unique crowdsourced series blends stories filmed by everyday people into documentaries revealing what it really means to be American today. It's the story of what brings us together and what keeps us apart as we strive to understand each other.

Family of Us: A PBS American Portrait Story
See a moving and meaningful picture of families in America today and the way these relationships shape us. Families of all shapes and sizes give us a look into their lives, revealing how we value our families now more than ever. (25:56)

Generation Nation: A PBS American Portrait Story
Explore how people in different age groups see themselves and their place in America. Through self-shot video, they share common experiences that bind age groups together and generational differences that put them at odds with one another. (25:53)

Share Your Story PBS American Portrait is asking you, and people all over the country, to submit your individual stories by responding to one of a number of thought-provoking prompts. It’s a chance for you to give us a glimpse into your life, and a chance for you to be heard. A chance for us all to see what it really means to be American today.

Classroom Resources
This collection is a toolkit to help educators bring American Portrait into their classrooms, virtually and otherwise. Recordings of PBS' American Portrait: Who Are We? virtual professional learning series engage educators across subject areas and include detailed lesson ideas to weave the project into existing curricula. Student-facing discussions adapted from KQED Learn offer a safe space for students from across the country to interact and problem-solve collaboratively. Check back as this collection grows in the coming months.

Support for this project has been provided by a grant from PBS. #AmericanPortraitPBS
