Debbie Shannon announced her candidacy for the seat on Wednesday. She is running as a Democrat and Independent.

Shannon said people in her ward have said they don’t know who their representative is. She wants to change that.

“There’s too much partisanship in politics nowadays,” Shannon said in a statement. “I say, let Washington worry about Washington.”

The incumbent is Republican Alison Hunt. Earlier this year she announced she will be running for Steuben County Legislature. Hunt is also the District Director for 23rd District Congressman Tom Reed.
