Schuyler County Warns Of Hepatitis A At Local Restaurant

VESTAL, NY (WSKG) - Schuyler County health officials say people who dined at the Seneca Harbor Station restaurant in Watkins Glen this month may have been exposed to Hepatitis A.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, Hepatitis A is usually transmitted person-to-person through the fecal-oral route or the consumption of contaminated food or water. Symptoms include fatigue, low appetite, stomach pain, nausea, and jaundice. They're usually resolved within two months of infection, for adults. Children younger than six do not have symptoms or have an unrecognized infection.

Though the risk of infection is low, the county warns anyone who was at the restaurant between June 11 and June 21 to seek preventative care.

Schuyler County Public Health will host free hepatitis A vaccination clinics throughout the rest of the week for diners who may have encountered the infection.

Vaccinations are available at the Schuyler County Human Services Complex on Wednesday, June 26th from 2:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.; Thursday, June 27th from noon to 6:00 P.M.; and Friday June 28th from noon to 4:00 P.M.
