  1. I watched the first segment of “wild weather” last night. Generally it was a great program. However from energy considerations, it is impossible for snow to move down the side of a mountain faster than it would in free fall. The most likely explanation for the high speed of the front of the avalanche is that it consists of local snow being pushed by snow from higher elevations.
