ONEONTA, NY (WSKG) - The Oneonta Common Council is starting to look for a new city manager, but a replacement for George Korthauer could take months to find.
Korthauer announced this week that he'll soon resign. He's expected to leave office on February 7th with about six months remaining on his three-year contract. “George brought to Oneonta a wealth of knowledge regarding municipal equipment from which our city operations have greatly benefited,” said Oneonta Mayor Gary Herzig.
Oneonta Common Councilman John Rafter expects it may take several months to hire a new manager. “Well, the time line is quite open for the moment because the Council is new and it needs to get its handle on what it’s doing now,” Rafter said.
Rafter said the majority of council members took office this month. Their first job is to learn how city government works and then identify what skills they’re seeking in a new manager.
Korthauer earns $110,000-per-year as city manager.
