On Saturday, July 24, the West Kortright Centre presents the instrumental “supergroup” Hawktail, comprised of leading figures in acoustic music today. Hawktail features fiddler Brittany Haas, bassist Paul Kowert, guitarist Jordan Tice, and mandolinist Dominick Leslie. These talented musicians are known for playing with Punch Brothers, the David Rawlings Machine, Crooked Still, Live From Here Radio Show, Deadly Gentlemen, Missy Raines & The New Hip, Jordan Tice and Horse County, Phoebe Hunt and The Gatherers, and A Prairie Home Companion, among others. As Hawktail, their beautiful cross-genre sound will appeal to lovers of jazz, classical, and bluegrass alike. This Nashville-based instrumental folk powerhouse is well-versed in the old-time traditions, but the ensemble’s cosmopolitan sound is not what you’d expect from a string band.
