Shelters Offer Emergency Care For Animals In Extreme Cold

With wind chills as low as 25 below zero in the next couple of days, local advocates for animals are worried about pets who are normally kept outdoors.

People bundled up against the cold in downtown Chicago on Sunday. Forecasters warned of dangerous weather conditions across a swath of the U.S. over the next several days.

After a holiday season of eating and eating and eating, many of us are packing gyms, trying to get back in shape for the New Year. Your exercising options in the winter might seem bleak. Gyms can be crowded and, if I can editorialize a bit, running on a treadmill is boring. The good news is running outside in cold winter months can be a great alternative. “I think it’s wonderful to be out of doors in the winter,” said Sarah Thompson, a Health and Wellness Lecturer at Binghamton University.

Frigid New Year’s Weather Calls For Caution On Roads

New York state has already had bitterly cold temperatures this week. That includes the Southern Tier and the lates forecast say that will continue. This weekend will bring us more than a New Year. For those traveling, David Morford, Senior Forecaster for the National Weather Service in Binghamton, has advice about road conditions. He says temperatures during the day could be in the single digits or low teens and drop below zero at night. With the windchill, people should use extra caution.
