The City of Binghamton has tabled its plan to build a multi-million dollar youth and community center for Columbus Park.

Enacting these initiatives would use roughly $200,000 of the city's ARPA funds.

The renovations include upgrades to locker rooms, dining areas and training facilities as dictated by Major League Baseball standards.

Binghamton city officials say they plan to address water ponding on the new Recreation Park tennis courts later this year.

"We're not disparaging, we're not throwing anybody under the bus, but I think we can do a little bit better."

The Binghamton City Council voted Tuesday to earmark $3 million for renovations at the Town and Country Apartments, which serves low-income residents on the city's North Side. But the decision has faced pushback.

“Because now they’re pushing community members out and renting their units out to students, and we have to have a plan for that."

"When those lines are crossed people must be held accountable.”

Democrats on the council said they wanted a clearer plan of where the plans would be allocated.

“I think it’s important for the money to be for all the different points that address human needs."
