Stephen Cornwell pleaded guilty to charges that he altered and stole records related to previous DWI charges against him.

The district attorney insisted that law enforcement had followed proper procedure, and that nothing else could have been done to intervene, under current law.

The justice disqualified current Broome County District Attorney Mike Korchak from prosecuting the case, citing a potential conflict of interest.

The Democrat finished third in November's race.

While opponents criticize lack of prosecutorial experience, PBA representatives call Battisti a friend of law enforcement.

Last month's unofficial primary results had Paul Battisti leading Mike Korchak by 137 votes.
